Bulgaria in 2022: Can a New Government ‘Continue the Change’?

With three parliamentary and two presidential elections and the fall from power of Boyko Borissov, 2021 was one of the most eventful years in modern Bulgarian history. In 2022, all eyes will be on the victorious We Continue the Change and whether, at the helm of a disparate coalition, it can fulfill its promise to eradicate corruption and steer a firmly pro-Western, pro-European Union path.

Newcomer We Continue the Change has taken Bulgaria by storm, ushering in the biggest political shift in a decade. 

But 2022 promises to be a sink-or-swim year for a coalition government that brings together some unlikely bedfellows in the anti-corruption Democratic Bulgaria, the conservative and often pro-Kremlin Bulgarian Socialist Party and the There’s Such People party of mercurial TV celebrity Slavi Trifonov.
