Just over a decade ago, North Macedonia and its capital Skopje caught the attention of many international media outlets with the story of the Skopje 2014 revamp of the capital. As part of this, the rather shabby looking centre of Skopje was to be renovated with, often with Classical or Baroque twists.
While this often sparked ridicule, the price tag that went with it sparked horror in many places. Eleven years later, we take a look at the state of the revamp and the cracks that are emerging in its Classical edifices.
